Therefore, on Thursday, 9-10-26, the night before our 9/11 Event, an informal, social gathering of some 9/11 Cast Members was arranged at Gianni’s Restaurant.
Without any specific request, our waitress, Lorrie, despite not knowing exactly how many attendees would attend, arranged a long table that seated 14 people In the back of the restaurant. And it turned out to be a perfect fit for the 13 folks that showed up.
Since I arrived early, I arbitrarily sat down at one end of the table. As others arrived, they chose their own seating arrangements. And, when everyone was finally seated, I had the opportunity to look down the table at all 13 of those faces.
Immediately, I was stunned by this very different, social encounter with the Cast compared to more usual experience of working with all these extremely talented individuals in their different roles on or off Stage during rehearsal.
Suddenly, even though I had known most of these individuals for many years, I was unexpectedly overwhelmed by the variety of backgrounds, talents and interests required to put together the 9/11 Remembrance. (See: “Program and Cast Bios and Photos”). And they were sitting down together without a Script directing their words and actions. And we could all talk freely with each other. Seating arrangement is below:
- Carl and Michelle Kelley; Dehner and Jan Franks; Joshua and Sam Elliott; Michael Sicoly, (Left to right; side near wall). Sanford Wright MD. (End of table).
- Sharon Holycross; Larry Collins; Charles-Henri and Jennifer Avelange; and Jack Klitzman. (Left to right; opposite side).
For approximately the next 2 hours, fascinating conversations erupted over widely different subjects and were variably shared between a few to many individuals up, down & across the table. Everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves and found this casual gathering to be an unanticipated delight.
I felt that this very simple dinner generated new and even stronger social and professional bonds that boosted and empowered the Cast interaction on stage for our 9/11 Remembrance Performance, possibly making it even better than the 2024 or 2025 Performances.
